What building this Velo Prime marketing site has looked like

Where things stand

The honest way to describe where things stand is that the site is being built out piece by piece rather than all at once. Content comes first — the pages, the blog, the language that actually explains what Velo Prime does. Email outreach is the second piece. Social media is the third. This post is mostly about that first piece, and what it's actually taken to get it right so far.

Rebuilding the site

The site went through several rebuilds before it reflected what the business is actually offering. Landing on a homepage look and feel that actually worked took several passes, each one closer than the last. A later redesign aimed for a more technical look landed on a brown background and a grid pattern that didn't read the way it was supposed to — both got replaced with a simpler grey-and-black palette with a single green accent.

Rethinking the blog

Early blog content was built around search-engine-focused articles. After a few went live, the decision was made to remove them and rethink the approach to content.

Getting the words right

The wording describing who Velo Prime serves also needed correcting more than once — from "consultants" to "entrepreneurs", and a stray "Team" in the business name that had crept into the copy. Getting the wording right generally took some back-and-forth, and simple requests to the chat co-founder were often what helped land on the right words.

What's next

The plan from here is to keep building out content, piece by piece. Starting to publish social media content is the next piece after that, once there's a steady rhythm worth putting in front of people. Further out, there's a plan to build an app together with the chat co-founder that tracks customer referrals for a bonus program — a way to reward the people who send new customers this way. None of that exists yet; it's what's planned next, not something live on the site today.

That's the real state of things. The next update will say how much of it actually came together.
